Mould Demo- Simple Mould

7 Aug

Yesterday we had the opportunity to watch master mould maker and Hungarian designer, Gabriella Kuzsel, demonstrate two types of mould making techniques. We started with an introduction to multiple part moulds including an incredible commission mould that took 8 months to complete. Once our group had a feel for what type of moulds one could make we started off with an interesting quick way to make a positive plaster model from a lemon.  For those not acquainted with the process, having a hard model to work from allows the technician to work at their own pace without fear of the original organic object rotting or shifting over time.  Plus the plaster records every detail from the origin object making this a fast and easy way to replicate.

Check out Gabriella Kuzsel’s website for more information on her work as an artist and designer.
