Hey everyone! There are going to be so many things to do when we go visit Budapest on Saturday (Aug 20) but if you’re interested in a few of the free sites I totally recommend these two:
St Stephen’s Basilica:
When we went a service was in session but yet they still let visitors come in. The building is incredible! It was built in 1905 (after 53 years of construction) and is affiliated with the Roman Catholic church. It was named after King Stephen who was the first king of Hungary. (His fist is kept as a relic in the church.)
Szimpla:
Szimpla is a bar off one of the main streets in Budapest. It was the first bar to open after the Cold War and has a lot of character. The man who started the bar first bought an old warehouse then asked his friends for furniture. So the building is a little odd with mismatching decor and furniture but is still really cool. It has a few different bars, a turkish gyro stop, and rents our hookahs. Because of Szimpla’s success many other bars in the area are copying their style in newers bars and clubs.
I know some people we curious about visiting Budapest or other neighboring cities around Kecskemet. I found this website (which can be read in english) that has travel opinions for relatively cheap!

In connection with János Sugár’s spraying the sentence “Wash your dirty money with my art” on the wall of the VAM Design Center in Király Street in Budapest, there has been a new development. The artist was summoned to appear in court and was accused of having damaged the building. The damage had initially been estimated at 1,400,000 forint (appr. $7,000 in 2008) and was later revised to 214,000 forint ($1,040). It has now been reduced to 34,000 forint ($150). During the trial Sugár acknowledged once again that he did spray the sentence but did not admit to any guilt as he considers the spray painted sentence a work of public art and socially useful because it generates discussion and raises social awareness.
